5 Minutes With Ryan Biddulph of Blogging From Paradise

For McCool Travel’s 175th travel interview, I am pleased to present Ryan Biddulph. I have been connected to and know Ryan online (especially on Facebook and Twitter) where he is engaging and helpful. He just returned to the USA after spending a lot of time in Thailand and I was glad to catch him for a few minutes to get his thoughts on travel.
Ryan Biddulp’s bio: “Ryan Biddulph is a blogger, author and world traveler who can help you become a full time blogger at Blogging From Paradise.”

ALWAYS IN MY LUGGAGE …

3 FAVORITE HOME-AWAY-FROM-HOME PLACES …
Thailand, Bali, New Zealand. Each location feels like home for different reasons, but all cut right to my heart.

A FAVORITE TRAVEL MEMORY …
Stepping outside into the humid, hot, heavy air in Bali at the beginning of my world tour, about 8 years ago to the day. I never forget seeing palm trees and feeling the heavy air as I left the airport, Balinese transport aka taxi drivers moving toward me smiling, at 2:45 AM, after 2 days of travel. I was sold. Traveling became my life in that split second.
3 FAVORITE TRAVEL BRANDS …
Air Asia, Air Asia, Air Asia (I go generic virtually all the time, save Air Asia, an airline company branded almost solely for travel)
3 MONEY-SAVING TRAVEL TACTICS I USE …

  1. house sitting
  2. cheap flights
  3. buying groceries versus going out to eat for every meal

3 WAYS THAT I HAVE FUN WHILE TRAVELING …

  1. People watching: I find a quiet spot and observe human behavior all around the globe. Fabulous way to absorb culture.
  2. Enjoying good food from off the path haunts. I always look for local eateries not on TripAdvisor, take a seat, point at selections, smile, and thank folks in the native tongue.
  3. Meeting friends all over the globe. Locals open the door to blissful experiences you’d never enjoy unless you meet and befriend locals. Kava in Fiji, Turkish coffee in Istanbul, dates and coffee in Oman; nothing compares.

8 WORD (OR LESS) TRAVEL MANTRA …
“Be open and fully experience your trips.”
FAVORITE NON-TRAVEL WEBSITE …
ESPN
