For McCool Travel’s 152nd travel interview, it is my pleasure to introduce you to Dana Williamson of Wandering Donut. I recently learned about Dana and Wandering Donut from a Facebook post. I do think it is an ideal time to publish her interview since yesterday was National Donut Day. What is Dana and Wandering Donut all about? Read on!
Wandering Donut bio: “Dana Williamson is the 19 year old travel / lifestyle influencer and donut enthusiast better known as the Wandering Donut. This Aussie has been to more countries than years she has been alive and continues to create a name for herself by taking a very ‘awkwardly relatable’ and honest approach to the often luxurious world of travel and social media.”
Dana Williamson: Wandering Donut
ALWAYS IN MY LUGGAGE …
antihistamines (because I am practically allergic to life) and sunglasses
3 FAVORITE HOME-AWAY-FROM-HOME PLACES …
- Portland, OR, USA
- Siargao, Philippines
- Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
A FAVORITE TRAVEL MEMORY …
Almost being squished by a flying piece of lava at Mt Yasur, Tanna Island, Vanuatu. Being able to see an active volcano in person was something I never thought I would have ever done but the fact that I got to experience it with my family was more than I ever could have imagined.
3 FAVORITE TRAVEL BRANDS …
- Jucy Rentals
3 MONEY-SAVING TRAVEL TACTICS I USE …
- Make friends all over the world. This seems a little ridiculous but it is actually the best thing you can do for your travels and your bank account! Not only does this open you up for a world of free or cheap accommodation opportunities but also you now have a local to show you around or share hidden secrets/gems about the destination and its surrounds.
- When catching up with friends and family you don’t always have to meet up for a coffee or a meal you can have a nice, and might I add free, day at the beach, going for a walk or even having a movie day at home!
- Instead of using a money jar as your savings fund. Use it as you allowance for what you can spend at home as you save for a trip.
3 WAYS THAT I HAVE FUN WHILE TRAVELING …
- Getting creative with photos.
- Dragging friends along for the wild ride.
- Finding and trying the best, strangest and most delicious food possible.
8 WORD (OR LESS) TRAVEL MANTRA …
“Don’t fear stepping out of your comfort zone.”
FAVORITE NON-TRAVEL WEBSITE …
Can I say Instagram? Because it is definitely instagram!
MOST MEMORABLE SOUVENIR …
A hand painted wood carved bird that I was lucky enough to paint alongside the extraordinarily talented Alebrijes artists in Oaxaca, Mexico.
FAVORITE CHEAP EAT …
Voodoo Doughnuts or if you want to mix it up a little and go for something non donut related Taco Gus in Mexico City will always have a place in my heart and stomach.
RECENT DISCOVERY …
The Great Barrier Reef Drive through the Daintree rainforest in Tropical North Queensland, Australia.
I AM FORTUNATE TO HAVE MET …
I did meet Zac Efron once but besides that there is no one person in particular rather than all of my fellow travellers that I have met all around the world on my crazy adventures. Some have become my bestfriends, others made a particular trip extra special, somehow there are still a few that I continue to travel with and all of them have played a big part in why I love travel so much.
I WOULD LIKE TO MEET …
Again, not a single person but rather a community of my favourite internet friends who I would love to meet in person eventually.
Thank you so much, Dana, for sharing your travel inspiration and tips.
